Bringing History Back to Life: Restoring Anthropologie’s Iconic Facade at 166 Atlantic Avenue
Located in the heart of Brooklyn Heights, 166 Atlantic Avenue is home to Anthropologie, a brand known for curating spaces that blend artistry, architecture, and urban charm. The storefront sits within a row of 19th-century commercial buildings, part of a district celebrated for its cast iron detailing and architectural legacy.
As the flagship tenant, Anthropologie’s identity hinges not just on merchandise—but on experience. That experience begins at the door, where timeworn cast iron columns frame the entry. Unfortunately, those columns had suffered years of exposure, deferred maintenance, and previous makeshift repairs. Our task: a respectful, technically sound restoration that preserved the building’s character while reinforcing its utility for a high-profile retail tenant.
Why It Matters
Cast iron restoration isn’t just a facelift—it’s a return to form. These architectural components were never meant to be hidden, nor hastily repaired. By applying industry-accepted preservation practices, we ensured that the storefront now reflects both the building’s 19th-century craftsmanship and the elevated retail experience Anthropologie delivers.
The Result
The refreshed facade of Anthropologie at 166 Atlantic Avenue stands as a seamless blend of historical integrity and modern execution. Durable, correct, and visually commanding, the restored cast iron columns now serve their original purpose: to frame and elevate what’s inside.
